Microsoft Standardises License Pricing for Dynamics
By Sophia Mayengbam
Microsoft has announced a new software license and maintenance terms to simplify and standardize pricing for its Microsoft Dynamics family of enterprise resource planning (ERP) software. For this the company has launched a new Business Ready Licensing model.
Business Ready Licensing streamlines pricing for Microsoft Dynamics solutions — Microsoft Dynamics AX, Microsoft Dynamics GP, Microsoft Dynamics NAV and Microsoft Dynamics SL — by moving from a pricing model based on hundreds of modules and granules to a new model based primarily on the number of concurrent users who actually use the software.
This new model has three simple offerings Microsoft Dynamics Business Essentials, Microsoft Dynamics Advanced Management and Microsoft Dynamics Advanced Management Enterprise. Microsoft promised that with the new licensing system users will pay less for a typical entry-level configuration, and eliminate much of the complexity of licensing enterprise resource planning software.
The company said the new Enhancement Plan represents a global maintenance program for Microsoft Dynamics. Under this the company will facilitate new benefits such as transition investment credits, unlimited online training courses for customers, and resources to connect customers with the Microsoft Dynamics community. Tami Reller, corporate vice president of the Business Solutions marketing group at Microsoft claimed the new arrangement would bring more value to customers while streamlining the offerings.
Reller added, "These new programs further enhance an industry-leading track record of delivering solutions for the People-Ready Business and our continued commitment to give partners and customers increased value and flexibility to meet their specific business needs."
The Business Ready Licensing, Microsoft said, will reduce pre- and post-sales administrative efforts associated with the complexity of maintaining and selling multiple product modules.
The new Business Ready Licensing Model will be packaged into three programs with different user-based pricing levels associated with specific levels of functionality that includes the following:
Microsoft Dynamics Business Essentials Edition: This offering will include financial and supply chain management solution that is designed for companies that need a core financial management. Business Essentials versions will also have limited business intelligence functionality. Pricing will start at USD 2,250 per user.
Microsoft Dynamics Advanced Management Edition. This version is for growing customers who need complex, highly functional financial and accounting programs and who are looking for an adaptive solution to manage advanced processes for their financials, supply chain management, manufacturing and project accounting needs. It also helps them obtain the key business intelligence and reporting required to manage their organization. Pricing will begin at USD 3,980 per user.
Microsoft Dynamics Advanced Management Enterprise. This version will include the functionality of the Advanced Management Edition as well as a set of advanced supply chain management, field service, configuration, manufacturing and development capabilities on a flat-fee basis.
In addition, Microsoft Dynamics CRM customer relationship management functionality will be included on the Microsoft Business Solutions price lists over the next 12 months, starting with Microsoft Dynamics GP.
Business Ready Licensing is focused on new customers. Customers not licensed under Business Ready Licensing today will have the choice to stay on their current licensing model (modular-based licensing) or make the transition to Business Ready Licensing when it makes sense for them.
The Enhancement plan will help the customers to deploy, use, maintain and upgrade the Microsoft Dynamics solutions. Along with introducing a flat 16% maintenance price, the plan also adds free support features for customers who are enrolled in the Enhancement Plan. They will receive free e-courses, training and manuals that will help them understand the differences in features and functionality between product versions.
Microsoft has also announced Transition investment credit for customers using Dynamics AX, Dynamics GP, Dynamics NAV and Dynamics SL. This will allow credit customers wishing to switch to a different Dynamics product for 100% of the license value of their current product.
Business Ready Licensing Plan will be available to purchase worldwide from August 1. Also the new customers will be offered the option of selecting current module-based pricing for 90 days after that.
