Intel Core 2 Duo Processors Shipping to Start in August
Intel has unveiled 10 Intel Core 2 Duo and Intel Core 2 Extreme processors for consumer and business desktop and laptop PCs and workstations that are planned to be ship in early August.
Chief Executive Officer, Paul Otellini, said that the Core 2 Duo will ramp in production faster than any previous processor and will cross then 1 million mark within seven weeks.
The Intel Core 2 Duo processors are built using Intel's 65-nanometer silicon process technology. The company claims that the desktop PC version of the processors also provide up to a 40 percent increase in performance and are more than 40 percent more energy efficient versus Intel's previous best processor.
"The Core 2 Duo desktop processor is an energy-efficient marvel, packing 291 million transistors yet consuming 40 percent lower power," Paul Otellini.
The Intel Core 2 Duo processor family consists of five desktop PC processors for business, home, and enthusiast users, such as high-end gamers, and five mobile PC processors.
Following Intel’s release, PC vendors have announced new desktop and workstation PCs which utilizes the new processors. PC vendors, Dell, Hewlett-Packard (HP) and Gateway, have announced that they would replace Intel's Pentium D with the new chip.
The upgrade will allow users to handle digital photos and music 35 percent faster and play games 47 percent faster on desktops like the XPS 410 and Dimension 9200, according to Dell.
