Yahoo! Messenger 8.0 has been launched out of the beta version with added features such as plug-in and voice functionality. The plug-in functionality allows user to a customized chat experience.
The new Yahoo! Messenger also allows developers to create plug-ins for the Yahoo! Messenger community.
The latest version also allows users to communicate with Microsoft’s Windows Live Messenger through a limited beta program. The interoperability deal between Yahoo! and Microsoft has allowed 350 million accounts to communicate with each other.
Another additional feature of the latest version is free avatars, an image that users create to represent themselves online. Through avatars users can change the clothes, accessories and hairstyles and also express mood, and customize the background with images from Yahoo! Search.
With the new version users can search contact using the contact search bar that shows a list of ways to connect with that person depending on what information in the Address Book.
