Sybase iAnywhere has released the latest version of SQL Anywhere, a database and data exchange solution for frontline environments. According to Syabase, this major release includes more than 200 new features and enhancements to database server performance, data protection and developer productivity, as well as innovations in data synchronization and service-oriented architectures. More than 500 key customers and partners participated in the product’s extensive beta program, the company said.
"This is a very significant release in SQL Anywhere’s 15-year history," said David Neudoerffer, vice president of Engineering, Sybase iAnywhere. "SQL Anywhere 10 goes to new heights in its ability to handle larger and larger volumes of data on the front lines of the enterprise where there is little or no administration capability."
Key new features and enhancements include:
New database server performance features: including materialized views, intra-query parallelism, snapshot isolation, parallel backups, additional indexing methods, and several internal enhancements.
Enhanced methods for data protection, including: built-in high-availability data mirroring and Veritas cluster agent options, along with robust data security additions.
Expanded developer productivity resources and platform support, including: tools for performance analysis and application profiling, .NET 2.0 support, tight integration with Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 and new support for Symbian devices.
Data exchange innovations in synchronization and service-oriented architectures (SOA), including: new graphical administration tools for architecture setup and deployment, expanded enterprise integration options, message management and monitoring, and mobile Web services.
The free developer edition of SQL Anywhere 10 will be available for download within 45 days. Base packages are priced at USD 599 for 5 users or USD 1099 for 10 users. Licenses for additional users are available starting at USD 119. SQL Anywhere Server is also available at USD 2499 per CPU, which licenses an unlimited number of networked clients. Additionally, the SQL Anywhere High Availability Option is priced at USD 1499 per CPU.
