"For the first time," the report states, "a leading services vendor has created a fully integrated services offering around a predefined stack of open source components", as per the report by Forrester Research. The research recognises the Unisys Open and Secure Integrated Solutions (OASIS) framework from Unisys Corporation (NYSE: UIS) as a breakthrough in deployment of open source software for enterprise computing.
Analyst Julie Giera, July 2006, authored "Unisys Pioneers the Right Model for Open Source Services," with Tom Pohlmann and Ronald J. Furstoss. The report offers an evaluation of the expansion by Unisys of its open source capabilities through Unisys OASIS, an integrated, certified set of software suites, complementary solutions and platforms targeted specifically for enterprise class computing based on open standards and fully supported through Unisys global services and vertical-industry solutions capabilities.
Citing Unisys "great technical skills, years of experience, good prices, and top-notch global services" as key differentiators, the report says, "with the OASIS set of services offerings, Unisys steps ahead of most competitors in open source services by offering customers a robust suite of services at great prices and with strong service-level agreements (SLAs)."
"Unisys intends to build on the value that Forrester has noted," added Ali Shadman, vice president and general manager, Open Source Solutions, Systems and Technology, Unisys. "We plan to continue refining the Unisys OASIS offering to extend the benefits customers realise from enterprise computing based on open source software and open standards."
