Corel Corp. has announced that it would buy InterVideo Inc., whose software lets users record, edit and play digital audio and video content, for USD 196 million in cash to enhance its portfolio of multimedia software offerings.
The acquisition of InterVideo will expand Corel's line of graphics software, which include Photo Album and Paint Shop Pro that allow users to edit and create images on their personal computers.
The acquisition will add WinDVD player and WinDVD Creator, which supports HD DVD and Blu-ray, to Corel’s portfolio. InterVideo’s merger in July will also add Ulead Photo Impact, UleadVideoStudio and Ulead DVD Movie Factory to Corel’s product line-up.
Corel will fund the deal through a combination of cash reserves, debt financing, and InterVideo's cash and cash equivalents, which stood at about USD 105 million as of June 30.
The deal, expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2006, is expected to add to the earnings in the second quarter after closing.
