Ron Sommer Joins TCS Board as Independent Director

Tata Consultancy Services has announced that Dr. Ron Sommer has been appointed as an additional Independent Director. “Ron Sommer’s presence on the board of Tata Consultancy Services will help us create a strong, independent board with directors of a global stature and varied business experience,” said S. Ramadorai, CEO and MD at TCS. “Ron’s experience and counsel on the board of directors will be valuable to the TCS leadership team as the company’s continues to grow globally, and at a fast pace.”

Dr. Sommer, the former chairman of the board of management of Deutsche Telekom has a PhD in Mathematics from the University of Vienna. In addition to TCS, Dr Sommer holds the following positions:

Member, Supervisory Board of Munich Re (Germany)
Chairman, Advisory Board and Director, AFK Systema (Russia)
Member, International Advisory Board, Blackstone Group (USA)
Member, Supervisory Board, Celanese AG (Germany)
Director, Motorola Inc. (USA)

Dr. Sommer’s addition to the board of directors at TCS increases the number of Independent directors to five including Harvard professor, Clayton Christensen, former HSBC chief, Aman Mehta, former Senior Advisor to the Prime Minister of India and Indian Ambassador to the USA, Naresh Chandra and head of GlaxosmithKline, Asia, S. Thiagarajan. The two executive directors of the company are Ratan Tata, Chairman and S. Ramadorai, CEO and Managing Director.
