NIC, IBM Partner to Power india.gov.in Using SOA, Open Standards
National Informatics Center (NIC) has announced a partnership with IBM to power the national portal of India (india.gov.in) of India enabling anytime, anywhere delivery of government services to its citizens. The portal is based on open standards and Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) from IBM, will provide a ‘single point entry’ to government information.
Announcing the partnership, Dr. Vijayaditya, Director General of NIC said, “The national portal is driven by the objective of bringing transparency and trust to aspects of good governance. The Portal will provide the global community a 'single sign-on' facility for Indian government services and information on India, while at the same time offering a single window access to over 5,000 Web sites. It also provides a base infrastructure that can also be utilised by other e-governance projects.”
Mr. R Dhamodaran, Vice President and Country Executive, Software Group & Developer Relations, IBM India said, “This phase of the National Portal gives the government an opportunity to improve the quality of services, increase customer satisfaction, and meet the demands of an ever-changing landscape and citizen sophistication.”
Given India’s rapidly growing population, the Government is focused on not only improving services for its citizens but also increasing the efficiency and effectiveness of its people to participate in the process of governance. With millions of hits per month and a large number of registered users today, NIC envisages that its enhanced platform and features will make this portal the chosen destination, for people in India and globally, to access information and services. To help them along the way, a team of content contributors, comprising of Government officers, technology and subject matter experts have been set up to provide diverse and up-to-date information.
