Delphi, an electronics manufacturer has unveiled its third SkyFi radio, integrating the in car XM radio with a portable unit. While Delphi also produces the portable MyFi, it is unclear whether or not the company plans to merge the two product lines.
The radio is the same size as modern hard-drive based MP3 players, and features a large 2.8-inch screen that can either be used horizontally or vertically. In addition to the play and pause functionality that became standard with the SkyFi2, the SkyFi3 can store up to ten hours of XM programming in its internal
Unfortunately, the SkyFi 3 doesn't include a built-in antenna, so you'll have to strap on a Wearable Kit to get live XM radio, and the battery can only handle 90 minutes of that.
Regardless of the MyFi's future, the SkyFi3 will come in at a lower price than the MyFi. Whereas the MyFi debuted at a rather steep USD 349, the SkyFi3 will retail for USD199, and USD 229 for a model that includes the wearable live kit.
Delphi also announced a new portable GPS NAV200 that includes optional real-time traffic, a 3.5-inch colour screen and a 400MHz processor. The unit offers preloaded maps on an SD card of the United States and Canada. It can also play back MP3 and picture and video files from an SD card.
