Big Blue's Push for Voice-enabled Applications Via Eclipse VTP Project
IBM will announce on Friday open source software intended to improve the lot of Web developers building voice-enabled applications, according to a report on Infoworld. An API is being released for download as part of the Eclipse Foundation's Voice Tools Project.
Eclipse VTP is built on top of the Web Tools Platform Project, which itself is built on top of Eclipse. The Eclipse Voice Tools Project (VTP) allows you to build and run speech recognition application using VoiceXML and Speech Recognition Grammar Specification (SRGS). The Voice Tools Project (VTP) builds the ability to create speech recognition applications onto the Web Tools Project. It features tools to help end users build dynamic applications using the web programming model. It also features APIs to help tooling vendors extend the VTP to build compelling voice tools.
According to the Infoworld report, "the API will speed the adoption of VoiceXML applications for phones, handhelds, cars, and the Web, according to IBM. The API was developed by IBM with Tellme and other participating companies."
