Cenzic Inc. has announced that it has reached its 2000 download mark for the company’s free Windows port of the Nessus vulnerability scanner. Nessus vulnerability scanner aims to provide the Internet community a free, powerful, up-to-date and easy to use remote security scanner. The company said the canner is used by more than 75,000 organisations worldwide.
Cenzic was the first company to port the Nessus vulnerability scanner to the Windows operating system and offer the code for the Windows product to the open-source community free of charge. Its remote security scanning techniques have been integrated within Cenzic’s Hailstorm and provide basic scanning features to complement the product’s more comprehensive vulnerability assessment functionality.
John Weinschenk, president and CEO of Cenzic said,"Reaching the 2000 mark speaks to the value the software development community sees in using open source tools as a baseline for testing applications for vulnerabilities and is a testament to the important role open source innovations play in conjunction with commercial products and services in terms of helping customers achieve the highest possible security standards. Porting the Nessus engine to the Microsoft Windows platform has provided our in-house engineers with valuable insight into infrastructure assessment, and we are pleased to have the opportunity to offer the port back to the security community at large."
