Sun Gaining Market Share in Worldwide Server Market: Gartner
Sun Microsystems has gained market share in the worldwide server market, firmly establishing itself as the number one UNIX platform server vendor in the world, in both revenue and unit shipments, according to the 1QCY2006 Worldwide Servers Quarterly Statistics Database by Gartner Dataquest. Highlights from Gartner:
Sun grew 7.6% year-to-year in overall worldwide server revenue; Sun is the only top-five server vendor to have positive revenue growth both year-to-year and quarter-to-quarter.
Sun moved to number one in worldwide UNIX server revenue with 31.4% of worldwide UNIX platform server revenue. Revenue for the SunFire V490 server grew at 142.7% and the Sun Fire V890 server grew revenue 86.8%, both year-to-year, while the SunFire CoolThreads T2000 server revenue more than doubled sequentially (Q/Q).
Sun is number one in worldwide UNIX server shipments with 51.2% of the shipments in this segment.
Sun achieved the highest year-to-year growth among the top five server vendors in both Linux platform server revenue and unit shipments.
