Information management and storage company EMC Corp. has announced a licensing deal with AT&T Knowledge Ventures, the intellectual property unit of AT&T Inc. The agreement allows EMC to market certain IP network management technology developed for AT&T.
Under terms of the agreement, EMC can now market the EMC Smarts software developed specifically for AT&T Project Lightspeed. The EMC Smarts automated analysis and impact assessment software works in conjunction with Alcatel's 5620 Service Aware Manager (SAM) to more effectively manage the network of Alcatel IP routers being used as part of AT&T Project Lightspeed.
"We're pleased that EMC can make this technology available to other telecom providers planning to deploy IP-based, triple-play offerings," said Chris Gahagan, Senior Vice President, Resource Management, EMC Software Group.
Using EMC Smarts software solutions, AT&T companies are able to automate real-time root-cause and business-impact analysis across the underlying IP infrastructure. The EMC Smarts solution automatically pinpoints service-affecting problems and calculates their service impact so AT&T companies can act quickly to maximize service delivery to customers, EMC said in a statement.
