TCS Helps U.S. Company to Migrate IBM Mainframe to Windows Server Platform
Tata Consultancy Services, a global IT services and consulting firm, has announced that it has successfully concluded the migration of business applications from IBM mainframe to the Microsoft Windows Server platform for Simon & Schuster, a New York City-based publishing house, resulting in significant annual IT savings for the firm.
"As a result of TCS’ effective conversion to migrate our system to Windows Server, we expect to drastically lower our overall IT costs and increase our competitive advantage," said Mike Grant, vice president of application development, Simon & Schuster.
The initial project commenced in August 2004, and for the last six months TCS has been supporting rigorous acceptance testing of Simon & Schuster’s business applications in preparation for its final live production environment launched in April 2006. The full project involved the migration of Simon & Schuster’s three million lines of mainframe Cobol legacy code.
TCS is a member of the Microsoft Mainframe Migration Alliance which brings together platform leaders, tools and technology developers and global system integrators, to share best practices and resources with customers migrating their legacy mainframe environments to the Microsoft Windows Server platform.
