Google has launched Google Checkout, which the company claims would make online shopping faster, more convenient and more secure for users. The much awaited service promises easy and trusted checkout option that enables shoppers to purchase from participating stores with a single Google login. It also works with Google's search advertising program, AdWords, to help merchants acquire new customers and process all or a portion of their Checkout sales for free.
Purchasing from the services can be done using existing payment methods, including Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover and Citi. Google said online transaction using the service is safe as it conseals the buyer credit card number.
Google claims the services will help online merchants boost sales and streamline the checkout process and also works with Google's advertising program, AdWords, so merchants can attract more customers and increase sales. Google charges merchants 2 percent of the value of each sale plus 20 cents per transaction -- a fee that early users said was in line with other options. The company rewards its advertisers by offering them USD 10 in free sales processing for every dollar they spend on its advertising program, AdWords.
