Cognos Adds Link To IBM-Yahoo Search Engine

Cognos, a provider of Business Intelligence (BI) and performance management solutions, has revealed that the Cognos 8 Go! Search supports IBM OmniFind Yahoo! Edition, new enterprise search software from IBM and Yahoo!

According to the company, IBM OmniFind Yahoo! Edition enables departments and businesses to find, access and capitalise on information stored within organisations and across the Web. The combination of Cognos 8 Go! Search and IBM OmniFind Yahoo! Edition gives users a single consolidated view of performance information including dashboards, reports, analysis, metrics information, and events.

"Enterprise search is an important capability all organisations should have. Combined with the power of leveraging Cognos business intelligence data, we can better help our joint clients use their information as a strategic asset", said Jon Prial, vice president, Content Management and Discovery, IBM.

Cognos 8 Business Intelligence (BI) delivers BI with the right context, through familiar interfaces, at the right time. To further enable effective decisions, Cognos offers additional access options that bring BI to familiar working environments of every worker. Cognos 8 Go! Search helps find BI metrics and information. Cognos 8 Go! Office lets users view, interact with, and refresh Cognos 8 BI reports, analyses, and metrics within Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word, the company said in a statement.

Joel Silverman, a programming analyst at Alston & Bird LLP, an Atlanta-based law firm and a user of Cognos BI tools, said that support for the free IBM-Yahoo enterprise search tool will help users at the company more quickly gather data from multiple sources.

"The ability to search different sources, such as documents, spreadsheets and intranet sites, would add real value," Silverman said. "If the [new] tool works as simply as an Internet search engine that allows users to scan for data in a multitude of sources and click on links to view the data, that would make our users' work experience more efficient."
