By Marcus Loh
Most of us are now so dependent on e-mail for day-to-day operational efficiency that life without it seems impossible to contemplate. However, while many have reaped the benefits of company-wide electronic messaging systems, an alarmingly small number of companies have dedicated executive attention to the management issues, corporate responsibility and risks surrounding such dependency on e-mail communications. Is SOA Right for Your Business?
By Lawrence Li
The phrase “service-oriented architectures” (SOA) is frequently – and hotly – discussed in the software application development side of the information technology (IT) industry. According to at least one analyst firm, the debate is “reaching the heights of hyperbole”. Despite this, the British analyst Butler Group says that SOA, defined as architecture aimed at achieving loose coupling among interacting software agents-services, is gaining ground – and causing confusion. The confusion is the result of a perception that SOA is simply part of implementing Web services. This view is too narrow and organisations are advised to consider a SOA, whether or not they intend to provide or consume Web services.
Ajax Is a Hype?
By Bjoern Mueller
Businesses today must be able to embrace changing markets faster than their competitors, without being limited by their technology infrastructure. The ability to ensure rapid implementation of new and existing applications to meet new business demands is the key. Traditional webbased graphical user interfaces (GUISs) are generally unable to meet demanding performance levels that involve a high user interactivity level and frequent screen updates. To achieve this type of application need, most enterprises still rely on fat-client or rich-client applications using Java-Swing, Delphi, Visual Basic, C++ and other languages. Ajax technology is one way to achieve an RIA (Rich Internet Applications). This article clears some the misconceptions surrounding Ajax technology and the practical functionality it has over older and outdated languages.
