Facebook Plans to Smarten Its Guise

The social networking giant, Facebook, recently revealed its redesigned profile pages that claims to be less cluttered, faster, and more spam-resistant. This announcement is mainly aimed at cleaning up user’s profile pages and improving organization now that the site has more than 20,000 applications.

The user’s information will be split up into different tabs in order to improve navigation; Feed, Info, Photos and Applications will be accessible through separate tabs found at the top of the profile page. A new "Publisher Box" will sit at the top of the Feed tab in profiles so that users can add different content directly to their profiles rather than having to go to different pages, and where friends can leave wall posts.

Facebook said the redesign is expected to take effect sometime this summer, although it said it would implement changes slowly and listen to member feedback. The site already provided a sneak peek, past week.

The site has more than 70 million members worldwide. Members of Facebook and other social networking sites tend to be outspoken about changes to their online communities. Users have become increasingly engaged with the site since it opened itself to outside applications.
