With Blu-ray technology the recent victor in the HD disc format wars, Dell is quick to take advantage of the move. The company announced that the Blu-ray laptops, with a starting price of USD 879, would be sold on its Web site starting this week.
The Inspiron 1525 is a 15.4-inch notebook with a wide aspect ratio screen capable of 720p playback and features a HDMI output. The Blu-ray player Dell uses in the 1525 can also burn CD and DVD as well as play standard DVD movies. The top-of-the-line Inspiron includes a 1.83-GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T5550 processor, Windows Vista Home Premium, 3 GB of memory, and a 320-GB hard drive.
”Blu-ray is definitely moving into the mainstream, ” said Dell spokeswoman, Anne Camden. ”If somebody is thinking of investing in a Blu-ray library, now's the time because not only are they able to watch it at home but they can leverage that library and take it on the road, and it's affordable to do.”
Dell said the Inspiron 1525 is currently available on the company's Website. As the Blu-ray offering is likely to appeal most to consumers who watch DVDs on their laptop, Dell is pushing accessories like a slim travel power adapter, noise-isolation earphones and a remote control that can be stored in the ExpressCard slot. The laptops are available to U.S., Canadian and European customers, Dell said in the release.
