Nokia and Motorola, tow of the world’s biggest mobile phone makers say that their batteries do not explode and the Chinese allegation that the batteries exploded is false.

The reactions came after Chinese investigators claimed that the batteries used in Motorola and Nokia phones explode. The Chinese allegation came after the death of a 22-year-old Chinese man whose cell phone exploded killing him instantly.

Government regulators in the southern province of Guangdong said this week that they had discovered unsafe Motorola and Nokia mobile phone batteries that could explode under certain conditions. Nokia, Motorola and Sanyo have said that the batteries manufactured in China are fake and prone to heating and explosion. Motorola, whose phone exploded killing the Chinese man claimed that even the phone was fake. Both handset manufacturers have said that the batteries fingered by authorities were unauthorised copycats.

Chinese investigators are not sure if any of the dangerous counterfeit cell phone batteries have been exported, or if they were only sold domestically.

Of late Chinese have been in news for all the wrong reasons. For the last two months, there have been complaints that pet foods and toothpastes manufactured in China contained heavy amounts of chemicals that were bad if consumed.
