Sprint, Google In WiMax Mobile Web Deal
Google Inc, the world’s top search engine has tied up with American mobile services operator Sprint Nextel to offer mobile search in a Web portal Sprint is developing for its WiMax high-speed wireless service.
The agreement, so far the biggest by Google with a major North American operator, will boost web access over Sprint's new network and improve use of Google's search services on mobile devices.
Although Google has agreements with overseas mobile providers, it however lags its closest competitor Yahoo in the highly competitive and matured US mobile Web market.
Google has said wireless is key to its growth and its strategy of selling Internet advertising. Google is in the midst of a lobbying battle over rules governing an upcoming US government auction of airwaves.
