Sony Ericsson's CEO Miles Flint Resigns
Miles Flint, the 54-year-old topper of world’s fourth largest mobile phone maker SonyEricsson has resigned from the company. The company has instead put Hideki Komiyama in his place. Komiyama is currently the chairman of Sony Electronics USA.
Miles Flint had joined SonyEricsson from Sony Europe when the two companies formed a joint venture merging their formerly ailing mobile phones business. His exit leaves behind many questions about the joint venture. Flint had positioned SonyEricsson as a profitable business in the cutthroat mobile phones business.
Sony, which is behind Nokia, Motorola and Samsung in the GSM mobile phones business, needs to get into mass-market business if it has to gain further market share and become a strong rival. It has started getting into smartphones business on one side and low-end phones on the other side to gain more market share.
A long time Londoner, Flint revived the Walkman brand name and launched it in mobile phones. This was one of key selling points for Sony. Flint will remain as an executive adviser to Hideki Komiyama until the end of December.
