Vodafone Launches Music Service, Challenges Apple’s Domination
British mobile phone major, Vodafone has launched a new music service that challenges Apple’s domination of online download music sale.
Vodafone, the world’s biggest mobile phone operator by revenues and subscribers said the service ‘MusicStation’ will make available unlimited music to its subscribers for a flat fee of £1.99 a week.
Vodafone UK subscribers will have access to more than one million songs from major record labels.
The best thing about the service is that unlike the iPhone, MusicStation would be compatible with all 3G handsets. However customers have to pay the fee weekly otherwise the music becomes unplayable. This means Vodafone is actually renting the music instead of selling it.
Two weeks ago, Nokia launched its online music download service in a bid to battle Apple’s hugely popular download service.
