Microsoft’s CIO Dismissed for Rules Violation
Microsoft has dismissed Chief Information Officer Stuart Scott, who ran the company's own information technology department, without giving an exact reason for the dismissal. “Stuart Scott’s employment with Microsoft was terminated after an investigation for violation of company policies,” a Microsoft spokesman, Lou Gellos, said, reading from a company statement.
Scott was hired as Microsoft's CIO in the summer of 2005. Prior to his work at Microsoft, Scott had been a divisional CIO for several divisions during his 17 years with General Electric, most recently as executive VP and CIO of GE Healthcare. Though he began as a co-CIO at Microsoft with Ron Markezich, Scott eventually replaced Markezich. Markezich is now a Microsoft VP in charge of the company's new enterprise managed services line, known as Microsoft Online.
"We can confirm that Stuart Scott was terminated after an investigation for violation of company policies," said a Microsoft spokesman in a written statement. Microsoft did not specify Scott's actions.
Scott had joined Microsoft in July 2005 after 17 years at General Electric. He is the company’s third CIO in four years. He had 80.000 employees under his leadership, while reporting to Kevin Turner, Chief Operating Officer.
General Manager Shahla Aly and Corporate Vice President Alain Crozier will assume Scott's responsibilities until a permanent replacement can be found, Microsoft said.
