IBM has been ranked number one in the application deployment software market in the country by IDC.
The domestic market for WebSphere grew significantly due to increased globalisation and integration activities that drove the deployment of web-enabled applications.
According to IDC Packaged Software Tracker 2006, IBM WebSphere's market share in India stood at 28 per cent.
"Most organisations today depend on technology-driven innovations to ensure sustained competitive advantage. Given this, software implementation that brings in flexibility and faster integration becomes imperative,” said Praveen Sengar, manager, software and services research, IDC India.
With Indian companies scaling their operations to take on competition at international levels, technology adoption had seen a substantial growth, IBM said.
IBM leverages WebSphere to offer solutions on SOA for its customers in India. WebSphere has been one of the fastest-growing areas for IBM Software Group and more than 9,000 independent software vendors from across the world write applications on top of WebSphere.
According to IDC emerging markets like India where competition is becoming intense and organisations are increasingly scaling up operations, application deployment software as a category is expected to grow at a year-on-year rate of 27 per cent (2007 over 2006).
Panini Dwivedi, country manager, WebSphere, IBM India/South Asia, said, "The leadership ranking by IDC positions our WebSphere portfolio as a robust, integration intensive and flexible set of software solutions in the industry. Increased demand for technology that helps smooth integration of processes and applications along with an upward curve in SOA adoption is fuelling the adoption of WebSphere in India.”
With customers like, State Bank of India, Max Newyork Life, HDFC, Tata Sky and BSNL, IBM has emerged as the most preferred partner in application software. “Sectors like telecom, banking and insurance are putting their strategic IT infrastructure on SOA and we provide that value to our clients to help them optimise their business," added Panini Dwivedi.
