iPhone Bought to the Corporate World, Says AT&T
Until recently, if you wanted to use an iPhone, you were by definition an individual user: there was no official corporate support from AT&T. That’s now changed, with the introduction of new iPhone plans directed specifically at “Corporate Responsibility Users.”
The iPhone made available to all corporate accounts comes with a stipulation that the iPhone be purchased with a new 2-year contract (or that current contract be renewed to 2 years). Users must activate a valid iPhone voice plan and an Enterprise Data Plan for iPhone.
While the voice plans will be offered at the expected corporate-discount pricing scheme, corporate customers will have to sign up for a USD 45 Enterprise Data Plan that includes the same unlimited data and 200 SMS text messages that residential customers get for USD 20. Also a USD 55 plan comes with 1500 SMS messages while a USD 65 plan offers unlimited text messaging. Both the plan comes with unlimited data.
However, AT&T is offering a USD 25 monthly-discount on the Enterprise Data Plan for eligible corporate/business accounts that maintain valid Enterprise voice and data plans for the entirety of their contract. Customers will have to activate their Enterprise iPhone pan by March end to qualify for this discount.
There are also two global add-ons for business users, allowing one to travel to 29 other countries and still receive data. The first plan offers 20MB of data and costs USD 24.99; the second plan costs USD 59.99 and gives 50MB of data.
AT&T has clearly been in no hurry putting together these offerings for business users; the iPhone went on sale to consumers over six months ago. The likely reason for this is that smartphone is somewhat weak in the features necessary for an enterprise-class phone.
