HCL Infosystems Reports Booming Revenue and Profits

HCL Infosystems has reported consolidated revenue of Rs. 3,306.6 crore during the quarter ended December 31, 2007 as against Rs. 2,968.9 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous year, a growth of 11 per cent.

Profit before tax for the quarter was Rs. 115.5 crores as against Rs. 104.9 crores in the corresponding quarter of the previous year, a growth of 10 percent. Profit after tax was Rs. 81.4 crores as against Rs. 76.0 crores in the corresponding quarter of the previous year, a growth of seven percent.

“Our system integration business gained further traction with a stream of new orders and project wins, while digital lifestyle products business rode the festival season to deliver impressive numbers. This quarter was also noteworthy for strong growth in PC sales, particularly of HCL Leaptops. A sustained expansion of HCL CDCs and HCL Digilife stores deeper into the country was another highlight of the quarter," said Ajai Chowdhry, chairman and chief executive officer, HCL Infosystems.

Revenue from the computer systems and related business unit, which includes the system integration business, was Rs. 911.0 crores as against Rs. 652.8 crores in the corresponding quarter of the previous year, a growth of 40 percent. Profit before interest and taxes were Rs. 61.2 crores as against Rs. 43.9 crores in the corresponding quarter of the previous year, a growth of 39 percent.

HCL, which is a distributor of Nokia phones in India, saw its telecommunications business as an important revenue generator, in line with the rapid pace of mobile subscriber growth in the country, Chowdhry said.

"Telecommunication and office automation growth will be faster, going ahead, now that we have completed the integration of territory," Chowdhry said. HCL in 2006 agreed to give half of the Indian distribution area to Nokia. The division has become effective this year.

The telecommunication and office automation business earned revenue of Rs 2395.1 crores, compared with Rs 2309.5 crores a year ago. HCL also said it planned to double the number of its retail stores to 100 by June.
