Nintendo DS Dipped in a New Color
Nintendo of America has revealed a new color scheme for the DS, announcing that a new Cobalt/Black system will join the options on offer at retail in North America this February.
The top half of the new DS system is blue and the bottom half is black - a similar layout to the red-and-black format that was first bundled with Brain Age late in 2007.
This is the seventh DS Lite color released so far, joining Polar White, Coral Pink, Onyx, Crimson/Black and the limited edition Gold and Metallic Rose. "Now there’s a Nintendo DS color to complement any outfit!" Nintendo boasts in its press release.
According to an investor note released by Pacific Crest Securities analyst Evan Wilson, the new Nintendo DS will be thinner, it will have on-board storage and larger screens. However, Nintendo declined to comment about the rumors.
Nintendo DS was launched in late 2004 and a revamped version, lighter and slimmer, was introduced two years later, under the name Nintendo DS Lite. Nintendo DS just finished 2007 as the best-selling video game system in the United States, with more than 8.5 million sold last year alone. Since it launched in November 2004, Nintendo DS has sold more than 17.6 million in the United States.
The Cobalt Black DS will be available from retailers starting February 10, 2008.
