Open Opportunities Are What Sun Talks About In Sun Tech Days

Sun Microsystems India has rolled out the 7th edition of its Sun Tech Days developer conference in India at the Hyderabad International Convention Center, with supporting sessions in Bangalore and Chennai. Focused mainly on open source projects and communities and revolving around the theme of ‘Open Opportunities’, Sun Tech Days 2008 has 16 tracks and 70 sessions across the three-day event.

During the conference, Sun technology leaders and evangelists will deliver technical presentations on topics including: Enterprise Computing, Open Source Development Methodologies, Mobility and Wireless, Security, Performance Tuning, Next Generation Advances in Web Services and Developer Tools and Productivity.

Rich Green, executive vice president, Software, Sun Microsystems, in his keynote presentation, highlighted the growth of the network economy in India, the evolving application development space and encouraged the developer community to innovate more through open source communities. He also highlighted recent developments at Sun including announcements to acquire MySQL and Innotek.

He further added that, “Developers are the backbone of software development and open communities; they create new possibilities, inspire thought and drive innovation. Open source is all about participation and as an organization, which bases its business model on open source, Sun strongly believes that sharing and collaborating with the developer community is the key to building opportunities.”

“Open Opportunities” being the theme of this year’s event, sessions covered technologies such as JavaFX, JRuby, Java Platform Enterprise Edition (Java EE), GlassFish project, NetBeans Integrated Development Environment (IDE), Java Platform Standard Edition (Java SE), OpenJDK, Java Platform Micro Edition (Java ME), OpenSolaris, SOA using OpenESB and Sun Java Composite Application Platform Suite (Java CAPS).

Supported by Oracle, AMD, Intel, Ericcson, Nokia, CollabNet, Sybase, Accenture, Webex, Parasoft amongst others, the three-day event provides a platform for the developer and academic community to participate in communities changing the face of technology, share knowledge, build up their skills and advance their career in the Web 2.0 world.

Over the last few years Sun’s developer population in India has grown rapidly to 652,610 developers, becoming the largest developer community for Sun worldwide. Sun Tech Days highlights the need for Indian developers to move to the next level by collaborating, contributing and competing on global technology platforms.
