Facebook Veto Google Friend Connect from Accessing Its User Info
Facebook recently said that citing privacy concerns over developer access to user information, it would block Google’s Friend Connect from accessing data on its social-networking site. Friend Connect is a service that allows site users to add a tiny bit of code to their web pages, code that will allow the users to import their profile information from other sites like, for example, MySpace.
According to a statement, by Facebook engineer Charlie Cheever, Facebook has found out that 'Friend Connect' re-distributes user information from Facebook to other developers without user’s knowledge. Which goes against Facebook's privacy standards that have been until now strictly adhered to. The statement however adds that suspension of 'Friend Connect' is more or less temporary till such time when Google's 'Friend Connect' is made to comply with Facebook's terms of service.
Cheever further wrote that, "We think MySpace's Data Availability, Google Friend Connect, and Facebook Connect can be part of a great movement in the industry to give users a better and safer experience online, while respecting user privacy."
