Microsoft Still in Hope to Get Yahoo
Microsoft has revealed that it had reached out to Yahoo with a possibility of a fresh deal that does not involve an acquisition of the Internet company. In a statement, Microsoft said it was not proposing to make a new bid to buy Yahoo but reserves the right to reconsider that alternative depending on discussions with Yahoo, shareholders of Yahoo or Microsoft, or other third parties.
Microsoft's latest talks with Yahoo could be aimed at providing an alternative to a search advertising partnership that Yahoo has been exploring with Google as part of its attempts to remain independent.
This announcement was also released considering the kind of intense pressure Yahoo is facing from its shareholders to reopen sales negotiations, with activist investor Carl Icahn threatening to replace the company's entire board unless a deal can be working out before Yahoo's July 3 annual meeting.
Yahoo also released a company statement saying; “Yahoo has confirmed with Microsoft that it is not interested in pursuing an acquisition of all of Yahoo at this time. Yahoo and its Board of Directors continue to consider a number of value maximizing strategic alternatives for Yahoo, and we remain open to pursuing any transaction which is in the best interest of our stockholders.”
