Sun: New Solutions for High Performance Computing
Within the framework of the International Supercomputing Conference (ISC), Sun has announced the availability of its new Sun Blade X6450 server module with four dual or quad-core Intel Xeon processors.
In addition, the Sun Data Center Switch 3x24 with 72 DDR 4X Infiniband ports (known under the code name Magnum Nano), Sun will also open new storage solutions and open source software products that provide higher performance and lower costs in high-performance computing environments.
The new Data Center Switch 3x24 is a smaller version of Data Center Switch 3456 with 72 DDR 4X Infiniband ports. Aditionally the new products allow the user to realize their own clusters. The basic architecture corresponds to the maximum performance cluster at the Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC), open storage and open-source software.
