XAware: Integration Tool Now Is Open Source
XAware, a commercial integration middleware provider, announced the creation of an open source project and the availability of XAware 5, open source data integration software that increases the productivity of development teams by making projects faster, easier and less expensive to build and maintain. The company has also become a Gold Partner in the MySQL Enterprise Connection Alliance program.
XAware began as a proprietary software vendor four years ago, but this is its first foray into open source. It has competed against established commercial vendors such as IBM, Tibco and BEA Systems.
XAware 5.0 is built on the Spring Framework and is a plug-in that works with the open source Eclipse design environment. The product can be used to support traditional database applications, as well as applications where relational and XML data are mixed.
XAware 5 features the Eclipse-based XAware Designer: a drag-and-drop, wizard-based integrated development environment (IDE) that makes building an application easier.
Open source has become the preferred way for many software developers to work and so has XAware decided to open source the latest version of its commercial product. Says Bill Miller, XAware's executive chairman.
"The kind of software that really flourishes in an open source environment is software whose users are developers and where there are a lot of them. And because they are developers, they can and want to contribute to what the product is and does," he says.
XAware 5 is offered on a dual licensing basis. XAware 5 will be available for free use under the GPLv2 license and alternatively via a commercial license. Service and Support subscriptions are available for purchase from XAware, Inc.
