Mortal Kombat Versus DC Universe, a Fight to Look Out for
At the recent Midway Gamers Day in Las Vegas, Midway surprised all by announcing Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe, a dream-come-true game that will allow players to side with brutal Mortal Kombat fighters and take on the likes from the rich DC universe. That means Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe will feature Sub-Zero and Scorpion taking on the likes of Superman and Batman. Other characters from each universe have yet to be confirmed for the game.
To help pen the tale, Midway has enlisted comic creators Jimmy Palmiotti and Justin Grey. The two have worked together previously on a number of DC and Marvel comics including Jonah Hex and Shana the She-Devil.
“It is a truly unique and extremely exciting effort to be teaming up with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and DC Comics for the first Mortal Kombat game on next generation platforms,” said Ed Boon, co-creator and executive producer for Mortal Kombat at Midway Amusement Games.
Only Superman, Batman, Scorpion and Sub-Zero have been confirmed so far, but Boon said more characters would be announced. He added that each character would have signature moves.
The new characters won't be the only changes to the Mortal Kombat formula. Boon also unveiled two new fighting mechanics - Freefall Combat and Klose Combat. Freefall Combat sees characters fighting as they tumble, landing on various stages to scrap some more – before they break through and continue to fall, whereas the Klose Combat zooms in on the fighting and view battles at close range.
Slated for release in the fall of 2008 for Playstation 3 and Xbox 360, the game is being developed by Midway Amusement Games in Chicago.
