Play Some and Win a Staggering Sum of Rupees 50 Lakh
Computer games, once confined to the four walls of a room are now seem to be an addiction among the youth, and big tournaments are thus arriving in India to cater to such growing interests.
Hong Kong-based entertainment company Zero Friction and gaming major Electronic Arts (EA) have now joined forces along with MTV to launch Vixture, a console gaming championship in India.
The Championship targets 50, 000 honed gamers from across the country to battle out for a secure place among 64 finalist teams gaming for the top spot to be held in Mumbai starting from 13-15 June 2008 and thus winning total prize money of Rs 50 lakh. Apart from the top prize of Rs 20 lakh for the winning team and Rs 10 lakh for the runners-up, the organizers have promised Rs 4 lakh each to the best gamers in each of the contests.
Popular games of EA like FIFA, Need for Speed ProStreet, Crysis (a must known game for the gamers), Cricket 07 and Fight Night Round 3 are the featured games of the championship.
According to Ms Charu Sabale, Director of Zero Friction India’s subsidiary, “there is no age barrier, any one beyond the age of three could team up to form a five member team and be a part of this championship. Preliminaries would take place in six major cities in India including Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Pune, between May 15 and 30 2008. The entry fee is Rs 250 per gamer and registration can be done online at the official site www.vixture.com. The registration starts from 1st May onward till 14th May 2008.
“The idea is not just fun, it is much more serious, as the huge prize money is involved. We want to open up gaming as a career option, as it is abroad and seek to put Indian gaming scene on the globe, she further added”.
