ClearWire's IPO today raised $600m to build out a nationwide broadband WiMax network. This is in addition to the $600m that Intel Capital invested in ClearWire last July. This is in addition to ClearWire's backing by billionaire Craig McCaw, the leading American wireless entrepreneur and pioneer.

Anyone who wants to know how Washington works should look to an article buried in today’s Communications Daily (sorry, it’s by subscription) on a House Small Business Committee hearing. The committee had brought together representatives from various communications industry segments to talk about the “innovation agenda, ” focusing on the growth of broadband.
An article in Marketing y Medios reports on a new study from Horowitz Associates Inc., that reveals Hispanics have a 58 percent broadband penetration rate, which is slightly higher than the percentage for all respondents (54 percent) and for non-Hispanic whites (56 percent). According to the article, Asians at 59 percent are the only group with a higher broadband percentage than Hispanics.
The urge to watch a never ending series of video blog ramblings and backyard acrobatics is driving sales of broadband internet connections, according to Infonetics Research.
Prior to the need for broad internet pipes, broadband sales seemed to have been driven primarily by their always-on capability. That would also explain why DSL and Cable subscription rates are relatively high in nations with expensive phone fees.
